What a day! I met my Ripper friends to skin up Cannon, then hurried home to watch the Super Bowl. There were some eerie similarities.
Bill scouted the route up a couple of weeks ago. Claimed he nearly passed out after going up the steep Taft Slalom to the summit. He had plenty of time to rest waiting for us this time, so he was all smiles.
Southeast from the summit. I guess the pointy peak is Mt Liberty.
Yes. I got sweaty on the way up.

Rob's Super Bowl front five.
Hey. Look at that! Rob and I have the same Corian countertops in our kitchens.
Josh is ready, too
Rob one-ups us with his home smoked ribs and Tree House tulip glass.
Tom looks as overwhelmed by the record-setting comeback as Julie and I were. Still can't quite believe it the next morning.

Cannon: 1h08m of uphill suffering followed by 17m of downhill exhilaration.
Super Bowl: 56m of blowout depression followed by 8m of comeback amazement.

Left to right: JD, Joe, Jared, Tom (Ripper South from Milton), Bill, me, Rich, Jay
JD, Jared, and Joe took the lift while Bill, Rich, Jay, Tom, and I skinned up. They later claimed to get in about 7 runs before they met us at the tram top for a Stone Ripper toast. I was skeptical given that we got up in 1h08m. However, the Peabody Express and the Cannonball Quad are each about a 5-minute ride, so... if they skied down in less than 5 minutes and spent 0 time in line, they could conceivably get in 7 runs in 68 minutes.
Downhill Tom led the whole way. Jay says he learned all he knows about telemarking from Tom.

I hiked the extra 100 yards to summit tower, while the rest of the crew met in the tram top restaurant.

My Super Bowl lineup.
I drank the Heady Topper in the first quarter while it was still 0-0, but was depressed through most of the game and couldn't move from the sofa, so that was it. I did manage to celebrate with the Trillium after the game, but the Greyhound IPA will have to wait for another day.

Yes, these are the kinds of photos that beer nerds send each other.
